Technology for a New World: UnConference 2018

What an exciting time to be alive!

We live in an amazing era where things like autonomous driven vehicles, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D printing are transforming how we live and work. At a staggering pace, advances in new technology are blurring the boundaries between people, the internet and the physical world. This convergence of the digital, physical and biological spheres is impacting entire industries and economies, and even challenges our notion of what it means to be human.

Come join us at the UnConference 2018 for an interactive session with freedom of movement and exchange of ideas. Be part of peer-to-peer learning experience in an informal collaborative setting.

What is an UnConference?
An 'unconference' is a highly informal gathering which aims to provide an open and engaging conversation on a topic of mutual interest to uncover collective knowledge, share ideas and insights, and gain a deeper understanding of the subject and the issues involved. Unlike a normal conference, there is no pre-planned agenda, no central organisation and no fixed speakers!

What are the topics we will talk about?
Topics are open for participants to suggest and to be decided democratically. If you have an idea about an interesting topic, feel free to submit via our form when signing up for this unconference.

Event Schedule
We plan to have 3 sessions - with 3-4 rooms available for each session where we can have discussions on the topics suggested by the participants.

These sessions can be TALK sessions (group discussions on a single topic), BUILD sessions (collaborative creation of some tool, resource or document), TEACH sessions (hands-on tutorials and demonstrations of tools or concepts in action) or PLAY sessions (group activities of loosely directed exploration or inquiry).

A workshop (BUILD, TEACH and PLAY) is a hands-on session that lasts 1 hour. The moderation of a discussion (TALK) lasts 45 min.

• A workshop. For participants who are interested to contribute a workshop, you will prepare a short tutorial and lead a practical session. The objective of the workshop is for the attendants to gain new technical skills and knowledge by doing. It lasts 1 hour to give enough time to setup/install software or tools and troubleshoot unexpected problems.

• The moderation of a discussion. For participants who are interested to lead a discussion, you will moderate a around a topic that you propose. The objective of the session is to listen to different contributions of the participants and record a summary of the session. The initial 35mins are for the open discussion and the last 10mins are spent writing a summary of the main contributions to share with all the group at the end of the event in the closing session. As the moderator of the session, you are responsible to write down the summary and present it at the end of the event.
